Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to your frequently asked questions about heating oil tank maintenance, replacements, and upgrades.
- Why should I replace my existing oil tank?
- You may not need to, but, if you’ve found your way here it may be because you are concerned about your tank.
- Is it single skinned, showing signs of sun bleaching or you may have spotted some small cracks?
- Any one of these tell-tale signs suggest a tank that is well past its best and is a potential environmental risk.
- How long will the process of fitting the new tank take?
- If we have the tank in stock, which is normally the case, the process of pumping out the old tank, disposing of it together with any contaminated oil and fitting the new tank will be done the same day.
- If a custom-made concrete base is required it can take up to three days, on these occasions we can supply a temporary tank to ensure that your central heating and hot water demands are met during the changeover.
- Your prices are considerably cheaper than other quotes I’ve had, how do you do it?!
- Oil tanks are all we do, day in, day out. Because we buy so many our suppliers offer us large discounts which we can subsequently pass on to our customers. We keep our overheads low so our customers get outstanding value.
- Do we really need to fireproof the oil tank?
- Depending on the surroundings, in most cases fire protection is now required under building control by-laws. We always aim to make this as un-obtrusive as possible.
- When the tank is in a prominent position, we recommend a fire proof tank. More information can be found under our fire proofing section.
- Can I replace my own tank?
- Oil tank installations should be carried out by a competent person who is OFTEC registered, holds the insurance in case of a spill and has a licence to transport and dispose of waste/contaminated oil.
- Once fitted the householder should be provided with the appropriate OFTEC forms confirming details of the installation and that Building Control by-laws have been adhered to.
- We strongly advise that householders do not attempt the work themselves.
- Can you move my existing oil tank to a new location?
- Yes, we can. We will pump the oil into holding tanks, re-locate the tank, install a new oil line, and pump your oil back in. Simple!
