Fire Proofing
We make sure your tank meets current safety standards

Building Control By-Laws now require oil tanks in close proximity of combustible materials such as fences, sheds, bushes etc to be protected by a fire screen. The proximity to neighbouring boundaries and eves are also taken into consideration.
For domestic oil tanks of not more than 2500 litres, without fire protection the tank must be not less than 1.8 meters from;
- Any building/structure with less than 30 minutes fire resistance, e.g a shed
- Any openings in an otherwise fire protected building/structure, e.g a window
- Any combustible eves
- The tank must also be not less than 760mm from a non-fire-rated boundary e.g a wooden fence or a hedge
Obviously, these regulations cause problems for lots of our customers who wish to ‘tuck’ their oil tank out of the way behind a shed or up against a fence for example.
We offer two solutions to this problem
We are able to offer a custom-made fire screen build service using tanalised timber framing with fire resistant board. This screening must extend 300mm beyond both ends of the tank and 300mm higher.
The second option is to install a fireproof oil tank. These tanks are a little more expensive but they are fire resistant for 30 minutes. This means we can put them almost anywhere. They are our preferred option.
